Quick Composting of Kitchen Scraps

iDOO Electric Composter Kitchen, 3L Countertop Compost Bin reduces kitchen scraps down to compost in 7 hours. This is a nice, clean looking unit with an attractive lid with a wooden appearance.Setup is minimal with the removal of some stickers and the addition of two packages of charcoal to the odor reducing chamber. There are no instructions on whether the charcoal types should be put into the chamber in any specific order, but the Idoo website showed the white balls on top, so that is how I placed them. The charcoal is supposed to last for 720 hours before replacement which is over 100 seven hour cycles.Using this is as easy as filling the removable compost chamber, closing and locking the lid, and pressing the start button. The unit also has a 1-12 hour delay setting, meant to allow you to begin composting on off-peak electrical hours (or just a more convenient time). The unit does not make much noise while operating. Mainly, it is a quiet and low pitched sound of stirring or grinding. After 7 hoursI was left with a dry, crumbly compost. The color and texture of the compost will be influenced by the materials included. The compost I photographed was made of a high percentage of egg shells as well as some ripped up pieces of paper egg carton.

Great working composter

This is a little bigger than I expected, but that turned out to be a good thing. Really nice looking and easy to use. It takes up a lot of counter space is only problem so far. It does make a fair amount of noise but if you run it at night it’s good. Nice and sturdy and easy to clean.

Pay attention to the size.

First off, this thing's huge! I had to rethink my location for it once I got it out of the box and realized it was far bigger than some of the other similar units I'd seen, taking up about as much total space as my espresso machine or air fryer. It wouldn't be so bad if the device didn't require you to lift a canister vertically out (which would hit my cabinets in many locations) or access drawers/hatches on the back and side of the machine for regular maintenance. So make sure to check the measurements and leave about a foot of vertical space above and some room around the sides to turn and maneuver it occasionally. With that out of the way, how does it perform?Good enough. It's a little louder than I'd want, but not too offensive. Like the dishwasher, just run it when you're going to be out of the room for a while. There are some smells, vaguely hot plastic smell at first followed by, again, a smell not unlike someone washing dishes. It's not terribly offensive, especially if you don't run it when you're going to be in the kitchen cooking or entertaining anyone. What comes out isn't quite like "real" compost you'd get from letting things rot for months outside, but is a dry, crumbly material that is at least more stable and less gross to store than a pile of raw veggies indoors, and I'm sure it will easily integrate with our compost pile itself. Mostly it just saves me trips to the "real" compost pile outside until I've amassed enough of this in a bin to bother dumping it.

Bigger than expected

I did not realize that this would be as large as it is but that is a good thing! This is a staple in the kitchen now and absolutely love it! No complaints thus far and highly recommend!! Aesthetically pleasing.
